Danceorientation Festival 2023 2nd edition
This event was made possible thanks to the support of Sport Vlaanderen and VGC Sport Brussels.
Dancing and sports for the blind may not seem obvious.
Etage Tropical is helping to bring about change. With the DANCEORIENTATION FESTIVAL, we want to introduce blind and visually impaired people to various forms of dance.
Therefore, we invite everyone to come and experience a real dance festival where sighted, visually impaired, and blind people move together. For people with a visual impairment, it is very important to move sufficiently to improve motor skills and body perception.
Dance is the perfect tool for this.
Connecting visually impaired individuals with the sighted world can be very well achieved through partner dance. Dancing with a visual impairment not only allows individuals to express themselves creatively, but also provides numerous physical and emotional benefits. It can improve coordination, balance, posture, and overall body awareness. Furthermore, dance enhances self-confidence, self-expression, social interaction, and a sense of community within a group of fellow dancers.
Program
The festival will take place in Brussels at the Comenius hall in Koekelberg.
The program includes gymnastics, yoga, and dance.
11:00 – 12:00 Foot gymnastics (open level)
12:00 – 13:00 Chair yoga (open level)
13:00 – 14:00 Social dancing
14:00 – 15:00 Cuban Salsa (open level)
15:00 – 16:00 Quick step (open level)
16:15 – 17:15 Bachata (open level)
17:15 – 18:15 Kizomba (beginners)
19:30 – 20:00 Debate on the new dance experiences from the workshops
20:00 – 21:00 Cuban salsa (open level)
21:00 – 2:00 Party
Our wish as a dance school is also that everyone can move and engage in sports. We notice that not enough people with disabilities dare to take the step into dance. Bringing people without disabilities into contact with people with disabilities is important so that dancing together becomes as natural for them as it is for us.
